The Honker

5 Star Review
Camouflage Duck Boat
This Duck Boat, "The Honker", is really meant to be a multipurpose hunting and fishing skiff.  The designers used a semi-decked hull with high coaming which you can see from the pictures.  The raised transom is designed for a small outboard and this boat can also be outfitted with side decks for those that intend on rowing more frequently. It's the ease of building that really makes this boat special. If your looking for a multi-purpose hunting and fishing boat or an easy to build duck boat for the up and coming duck hunting season, this set of duck boat plans might be very well be perfect for you. If you go with the flat bottom hull, the frame uses 3 sheets of plywood and can be put together in a weekend. Camouflage Duck Boat Even though it's a little more time consuming, we recommend that you take a  little extra time to go with the second generation design. The stitch and glue method will make the boat more durable and it will last much longer. The other great part about this particular duck boat design is that it is budget friendly. The plans tell you everything you need to know to build the boat and they are priced at $50. Furthermore, the boat only needs 5 sheets of 1/4" (6mm) marine plywood and a few gallons of epoxy. Again, it's pretty easy to build. No jig is required. There is no scarfing or beveling required. The designers of this duck boat, hunting or fishing boat say that they actually prefer a small gap between joints. If you want to know exactly why that is, you're going to have to ask them! We suspect that the stitch and glue bonds better in the small gaps. The cost for the fiberglass kit is under $300 but this doesn't include the cost of any foam you may use or the wood. Overall though, this is an easy build (for a boat), it's more stable than a canoe and makes a great little project and nice hunting/fishing boat!

The specifications for the The Honker Duck Boat are:

LOA: 14' 10" 4.5 m
Max. Beam: 3' 7" 1.1 m
Designed Weight: 110 lbs 50 kg

Camouflage Duck Boat
The Duck Boat is obviously a speciialty boat designed for duck hunters. If you're looking for a duck boat, you know what you want so we're just going to lay out the specifications for this particular set of plans. If you like this particular duck boat and are thinking about building one yourself, this set of duck boat plans will not disappoint. They are very thorough and clearly designed by engineers. We've included some pictures. If you are interested and want to know more, just click on through to their website, click on specialty boats, duck boats and learn more. Camouflage Duck Boat So, moving on to the specifications. For this particular duck boat, the transom is is designed to be a 20" shaft. As we're going through some of the specifications, please keep in mind that these duck boat plans can be changed to be suit your needs. For example, even though the plans do not show a fixed fuel tank, there is room for a 12 gallon tank under the foredeck (please don't mistakenly shoot it!). Also, the cockpit, is designed to be about 9' by 4' but the size of the cockpit can be completely customized. These duck boat plans show the option to build for a transom and a sponsoons. Overall, the boat is stiff but still a light one piece structure. It's recommended to be built out of marine plywood with a completely fiberglassed bottom both inside and out. A jig is not required to build this boat but strongbacks can be used if desired. The sides and bottom are simply cut from 4x8 plywood. Ultimately though, all of the seams are taped with fiberglass and epoxy which are much stronger than plywood alone. Anyway, we're told that that this project is fit for a first time builder. Obviously, it helps to have some wood working and hands on experience and the less experience you have, the more time the project will take. However, if you're like us, you like to do it yourself and these set of duck boat plans will get you going!!!
